ALANA LAKE

Alana Lake is a British born artist (1981) who studied at the Royal Academy of Arts, London. She works predominately with photography and video and recent work explores themes relating to loss, fragmentation and desire. Lake employs juxtaposition as a visual tool often making peculiar but poignant connections between works. This allows for the construction of non-linear narrative, guiding the viewer through her own perception of her surroundings. Lake's work is essentially a personification of herself through photographic means; her experiences may be personal but they can often be more widely interpreted through universal or collective means. Alana Lake has exhibited in London, Milan, Turin, Helsinki and Zurich.

“Alana Lake is restless. She will not be what you want her to be. Refusing to be typecast, she does not fit into one of the half dozen or so categories which critics use to traverse contemporary art photography. She could easily fit into several; or all of them; and more besides.”
